How MentorCity Began
MentorCity was founded by Shawn Mintz after an experience that demonstrated the power of mentoring in a simple but powerful way. While working in the non-profit sector, Shawn organised a mentoring event where mentees rotated between mentors every ten minutes. In just one hour, participants had the opportunity to speak with six different mentors. The room was full of energy as people shared advice, expanded their networks, and gained confidence.
Watching these interactions unfold, and seeing the moment when ideas clicked for participants, sparked a realization: mentoring conversations can be transformative, but organisations lacked the tools to sustain and scale them.
Traditional mentoring programs were often managed through spreadsheets and manual processes. Matching mentors and mentees could take months, and once relationships were established, there was little visibility into whether meetings were happening or whether participants were achieving their goals.
